A home energy assessment from AGL.
We can help you save energy and money.
Trades Services SA has partnered with AGL Energy to participate in the South Australian Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES). If you are a Priority Group householder, that means we should be able to help you take advantage of the free services available under REES.
Who is eligible?
Home energy assessments are free to Priority Households. No other households are eligible. However, residential retrofits (see below) are free for non-priority Group households as well.
Who will complete the free home energy assessment?
Trades Services SA has engaged Your Energy Savings Solution Pty Ltd (YESS) and their REES-trained and police-checked home energy assessors to complete our home energy assessments. This energy assessor will come to your home by appointment only, and will be wearing clearly labelled AGL identification.
What is a free home energy assessment?
As part of a free home energy assessment, the assessor will review your energy-consuming appliances, as well as your shading, lighting, heating, cooling and hot water system. They will talk with you about your current usage needs, and provide practical energy saving recommendations to help you reduce your energy costs without impacting your lifestyle.
As well as looking over your home, the energy assessor can review the usage section of your recent energy bills, to look at usage patterns and give you advice. At the end of the assessment, they’ll give you a report that details the findings and any recommendations.
Is it really free?
The home energy assessment is offered free to all households where:
- a concession cardholder resides – health care card, pension concession, TPI or War Widows Gold Repatriation Health Card, Gold Repatriation Health Card
- where a person is eligible to participate in an Energy Retailer Hardship / Energy Concession program, is a recipient of the South Australian Government Energy Concession, or has been referred from a registered member of the South Australian Financial Counsellors Association.
Only one energy assessment can be undertaken per household, unless the residents have changed.
How long will it take?
The home energy assessment and review will take about an hour.
Who will complete the home energy assessment?
The qualifications and suitability of the person undertaking this assessment is stipulated under the REES. They have a knowledge and appreciation of household energy use, are trained in assessing appliance energy usage and thermal performance of homes. They have also been trained in identifying and communicating energy savings opportunities, as well as explaining your energy bill to you if required.
The person undertaking your home energy assessment has undergone a police check, and has qualifications commensurate to three units of Certificate IV in Home Sustainability Assessment and/or the Victorian Residential Efficiency Scorecard Assessor training.
You can request a male or female energy assessor when you book your home assessment.
